One operating system.Two worlds.

SWONOS combines a modern Linux foundation with the SWONE Windows Bridge. The goal is an independent desktop system that brings native Linux applications and supported Windows applications together in one interface.

Not rebuilding Windows. Rethinking the desktop.

SWONOS is not intended to become a Windows clone. Its interface, system services and user experience are being developed as an independent SWONE system, with Linux as a reliable technical foundation and an integrated bridge for Windows software.

Linux foundation

Stable, open and updateable. SWONOS builds on a proven Linux base.

SWONE Windows Bridge

Supported Windows applications are intended to launch and behave like normal programs from the SWONOS desktop.

S

Own system identity

Own interface, system graphics and services – consistently designed for SWONOS.

One interface, two runtime worlds

Native Linux programs run directly on the system. Windows software is integrated through the SWONE Windows Bridge into an isolated Windows runtime. The technical separation remains while launch and interaction are designed to feel seamless.

Frequently asked questions

Is SWONOS its own Linux distribution?

SWONOS is planned as an independent Linux-based desktop operating system. The underlying platform remains updateable, while branding, system components and integration are developed as the SWONOS layer.

Will every Windows program work?

No. The goal is broad support, but not every Windows application will be technically suitable or fully compatible. Compatibility will be tested step by step.

Do I need a Windows licence?

Microsoft licence terms apply to the Windows runtime. SWONOS itself does not include a Windows licence.

When will the beta be released?

There is currently no fixed release date. Stable integration and quality take priority over an artificial deadline.
